Richard Smith
Biography
Richard Smith was the CEO of Unite Students, the UK's leading manager and developer of student accommodation, for eight years until December 31, 2023. During his 13-year tenure at Unite, he was a driving force behind the company's growth, expanding its portfolio to 157 properties across 23 university towns and cities and providing homes for over 70,000 students. Under his leadership, Unite became a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index in 2022. Smith championed a strategy focused on aligning with top universities and building a purpose-led, responsible business, establishing Unite as a preferred provider in the UK higher education sector. He previously spent 13 years in the transport industry.
