Biography

Gertrud R. Traud serves as Chief Economist and Head of Research at Helaba. Joining Helaba in 2005 as Chief Economist, she assumed leadership of the Research department in 2006. Dr. Traud is recognized for shaping the bank's economic and capital market outlooks and for her accurate analyses. She earned her doctorate in economics from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in 1996, having also studied at the University of Michigan, USA. Prior to Helaba, Dr. Traud held positions at Bank Julius Bär and Bankgesellschaft Berlin, where she led the equity market strategy for the European Securities Network. She is a sought-after speaker at financial conferences and engages in academia, having taught at institutions like the Warsaw School of Economics and Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. Dr. Traud also contributes to several advisory boards.

Helaba, headquartered in Frankfurt and Erfurt, is a commercial and public law bank serving as a central bank for 40% of German savings banks. It offers services in wholesale, real estate financing, and capital markets, with a global presence in cities like London and New York. Employing around 6,300 people, Helaba emphasizes sustainable practices and ESG integration. It is owned by the German savings bank sector (66%) and the states of Hesse and Thuringia (34%).
