2020 has forced many to reconsider the link between environment, society, good governance and profit. That has sharpened minds on the need for greater focus on ESG criteria and investments. Many also now see the disruption as an opportunity to rebuild greener economies.All signs suggest that investors, particularly foreign private equity funds, are placing much more focus on ESG data when deciding where to invest.Where do Indian Developers fare in this aspect? With nearly 24 years of advisory experience in Power and utilities domain across geographies in South Asia, India, Africa and Middle East. He is a specialist in power policy, regulations, development of PPP frameworks and competitive bidding guidelines. Has been involved in transactions across sector value chain - supporting investors, governments, regulators and utilities.

Dr. Winfried Damm, graduated at FU Hagen, Germany, received MBA from Michigan State University(USA) and PhD from FU Berlin. He worked for two years as a consultant, four years for a member of national parliament in the energy sector and joined the municipal utility (Stadtwerke) of Leipzig in 1992. There he headed sales, marketing, PR, strategy, controlling, M&A, international department and external relations. He had been involved in many national legislative outcomes starting with the first feed-in-law for renewables up to capacity market discussions. He started working with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Dec’2014 and joined the India office in Jan’2015 as Director of the Indo-German Energy Program.

Anita Karnik is a Vice President in the Project Advisory & Structured Finance division at SBI Capital Markets Ltd - leading Multilateral and ECA financing. Over the past decade she has been focussed on the power sector – arranging financing for thermal, hydro, wind, solar & transmission projects. More recently, she is working on arranging and managing lines of credit from the World Bank, KfW, EIB and others for deployment in climate and ESG oriented projects.
