Biography

Renan Filho is Brazil's Minister of Transport, appointed in January 2023. An economist by education from the University of Brasília and with an extension course from Harvard, he previously served two terms as Governor of Alagoas, from 2015 to 2022. During his governorship, he significantly improved the state's investment capacity and advanced infrastructure, education, health, and public security. His political career also includes terms as a Federal Congressman and twice as Mayor of Murici. As Minister of Transport, Filho is focused on driving record public and private investments to modernize Brazil's national transport infrastructure, particularly in highways and railways, enhancing national logistics and economic development.

The Brazilian Ministry of Transport formulates and implements nationwide transport policies, regulating road, rail, and traffic transport. Through SENATRAN, it provides services like the Digital Traffic Card. Founded in 1967 and reinstated in 2023, it oversees road and rail concessions, public works, and infrastructure projects, focusing on sustainable infrastructure and reducing greenhouse gas emissions to meet Brazil's climate goals.
