Recently India launched its much-awaited Australia Economic Strategy (AES) report. AES is the only strategy report ever produced by the Indian government for a specific country, and is a reciprocal report to Australia’s India Economic Strategy to 2035 (IES 2035) report.The IES2035 set a target for India to become one of Australia’s top three export markets, to make India the third-largest destination in Asia for Australian outward investment, $100 billion by 2035.

The release of the AES is timely, covering a wide range of sectors and keeping in mind post-COVID-19 recovery, which both Australia and India will need to work on. The AES strongly recommends a six-month review of the strategy and IES 2035 implementation for the next two years. It asks for sector-specific specialized delegation exchanges, sharing of more success stories between both countries, and a focus on matching businesses with similar goals. GRI Infrastructure Club India along with Australian Trade & Investment Commission are hosting a meeting for exchange of ideas, to create better understanding of each other’s markets in sectors such as Roads, Airport, Energy, Ports and to foster collaboration between both countries. Key decision makers from the Infrastructure sectors of both countries will join this discussion.

Deep is a Managing Director in MIRA and a member of the India team based in Mumbai. Since joining Macquarie Group in 2008, Deep has led acquisitions, management and disposal of several investments across various sectors, including building expertise in the transport, communications and energy sectors in India. Deep has been a member of the investing team across all infrastructure funds managed by MIRA in India, including the MAIF series. Deep currently manages the investments in transport and communications sectors and sits on several portfolio company boards. Prior to joining Macquarie Group, Deep worked with Strategic Decisions Group, providing strategic advise to companies in India.

Munish is based in Chennai, India where he commenced his posting as Trade and Investment Commissioner for South India in January 2018. He is leading Australian government’s initiatives in infrastructure, mining, resources and energy in South Asia. Munish has held numerous positions with the Australian Trade & Investment Commission over the past 20 years, both in Australia and internationally. Prior to taking up his posting in India, he was National Manager of Austrade’s Advisory Services in Sydney and has been National Manager for Infrastructure and ICT teams in Australia. Prior to Austrade, Munish was with the Advertiser Newspaper in Adelaide in circulation sales role.
